Hello, I'm NEL — a writer who builds things.

Long before I wrote a line of code, I wrote stories. Primarily fiction, I have also enjoyed writing poetry, essays and I maintain a daily journalling habit. Over the years, nearly every writing tool I reached for felt like it got in the way — bloated with features I'd never touch, asking me to wrangle a project before I'd written a sentence.

I wanted something simple. Software that opens fast, gets out of the way, and lets the writer write. Free to use, but genuinely capable — a robust set of tools for serious writing, with none of the clutter that breaks your focus. I looked for it for a long time. When I couldn't find it, I decided to build it myself.

WriteLite is the writing app I always wanted and never found, a passion project that I will continuously improve, and a tool for focused writing.

WriteLite is free. It stands a testiment to my ethos that writing tools shouldn't hide behind a pay-wall, be restrained to an operating system or hide the words we write in files we can't access; but building it full-time is its own kind of tightrope. If WriteLite is something you want to exist — or something you already use and value — a small contribution goes further than you'd think. Enough to pay a bill. Enough to fill a plate. Enough to keep the lights on and the ball rolling while I build.
